The 2003 Season car, a 1998 TOM's SuperToyota was bought from Azteca
Motorsport based in Malaga, Spain in February 2003, where it had competed in
and won the Spanish SuperToyota Championship (F3-derived TOM's one make series) in 1998 and 1999.
The car was driven by Spaniard Sergio
Hernandez (who also drove in the 2003 British Formula 3 Championship), American
Phil Giebler and Swede Frederick
Haglund.

The 2003 season had a difficult beginning to the year with the new car under development. To comply with Monoposto regulations, the original fuel injection system had to be replaced by
carburettors. This proved to be expensive, time-consuming and caused many unreliability problems. Spawny Whippet Motorsport however managed to finish 9th from 38 drivers in the Monoposto Championship,
with the season finale producing an 2nd place in qualifying and the race, plus a 5th place in the wet on very old rubber. The cars performance increased markedly over the course of the 2003 season, with the initial reliability problems caused by converting the throttle bodies to carburettors now resolved.
This car
was sold in January 2004 to be hill-climbed in France by John Lloyd, running a GSXR or Hayabusa motorcycle engine instead of the Toyota unit.

The car was involved in a major accident in 2005 which
wrote off the tub and unfortunately John Lloyd was badly injured. |
