This
was my first race on the Stowe circuit. The TOM's was out primarily for a
shakedown test after a gearbox and clutch rebuild.
I
spent the qualifying session learning the circuit, and qualified 4th from
around 12 cars.
At the start of race 1, I got up to 2nd place, but soon lost 1
place back to the very quick Ray Rowan. The rest of the race was fairly
processional, with just lapping the occasional back-marker to relieve the
boredom for the spectators.
I
got another good start in race 2, almost getting into the lead, but Steve Maxted
just pipped me into the first corner. At the second corner, I was hit from
behind (2nd time in 2 weekends) and lost 6 places. Les Beer could not continue
and retired. I then chased after Ray Rowan through the field to catch Steve in
the lead. Ray passed Steve on about lap 7, but I couldn't get near them, so fell
back. 3 laps before the end Steve Maxted ran out of fuel, and I inherited 2nd
place. Race won by Ray Rowan, 6 times
British Hillclimb Champion in a Dallara F301.
