This
was my first time driving a Formula Vauxhall Junior, hired for the
occasion from Andy Yeoman's to replace a misbehaving TOM's. This car
needed a different driving style to the TOM's, and responded to
being thrown around corners rather than the ultra-smoothness needed
in an F3 type car. I qualified 4th, 1st in class behind a pair of
Formula Vauxhall Lotus and a rocket-powered Van Diemen 2 litre.

Qualifying 1
I
spent the first half of the session learning the car, then tried to
string a couple of flying laps together towards the end of the
session. The car had a Pi2

Race 1
I got a good start to
race 1, overtaking 1 FVL and the Van Diemen on the 2nd corner, elevating me to
2nd. I lost the place along the long straights, and ended lap 1 in 3rd place. I
stayed in 3rd, harrying the FVL of Paul Calladine for the remainder of the race,
although the Van Diemen recovered from an earlier spin to pass us both and spin
off again at the end of the race.

Qualifying 2
I
qualified 4th, 1st in class and ahead of a full time Formula Renault
driver.

Race 2
I got a great start, passing Calladine and almost passing John Miller for
the lead. John just beat me into the first corner, then slowly pulled away over
the next few laps. I managed to keep Calladine behind me throughout the race,
but unfortunately suffered a puncture on lap 15 of 17, putting me out of the
race from P2.
Race
won by John Miller. |
